The Citizens Fire Company launched an effort to bring back the exterior of the fire house to its former Victorian appearance. While doing so, a few serious structural issues came to light.

John E. “Jack” O’Brien, Jr., 55, of East Elm Street, Tamaqua, died on Friday, December 2, 2011 in Allentown, PA. He was a member of the Citizen’s Fire Company, Tamaqua. Most recently serving as a lieutenant and as the financial secretary/treasurer of the company, Jack was also a former captain. He completed certification as a Firefighter I and II and was a code inspector for the fire company. A representative of the Citizens Fire Co. to the Tamaqua Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association, Jack was serving on the Board of Control of the Association. He was a former Deputy Coroner in Schuylkill County for 30 years and an EMT.
